St. Peter’s Hall, the half-moated medieval Hall which is the centrepiece of the St Peter’s Brewery site at St Peter South Elmham near Bungay, will re-open on Tuesday 12th June following a programme of redecoration and repair. The pub, restaurant and event business will be run by Stuart Cox and Cathryn Rockey who previously worked at St Peter’s Hall as manager and chef respectively until moving on to gain further experience in 2007.
Stuart and Cathryn previously worked together at Delia’s Canary Catering. Cathryn is well known for her great tasting food and is passionate about honestly priced, locally sourced ingredients.
Stuart is renowned for his warm welcome. He has experience of management in Switzerland, leadership of the catering team at St Peters Hall as well as General Manager at Loch Fyne Restaurant and Delia’s Canary Catering in Norwich.
A desire to manage their own business has been a goal from day one. When the opportunity arose for Cathryn and Stuart to run The Bell at Wortwell near Harleston in 2009, they jumped at the chance. In 2010, the Wortwell Bell was named South Norfolk’s Pub of the Year.
Stuart Cox commented: “Cathryn and I are delighted to be returning to St Peter’s Hall, this time running our own business from this unique venue. As well as the pub and restaurant business there, we already have numerous bookings for weddings, parties and business meetings. At the Wortwell Bell we have been listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide for the last two years and we are aiming to return St Peter’s Hall to this important beer-lovers bible in the near future”.
Colin Cordy, Managing Director of St Peter’s Brewery added: “We are delighted to welcome Stuart and Cathryn back to St Peter’s Hall. They have a strong emotional attachment to this wonderful building and we are looking forward to working with them to build the trade and function business as well as building up the number of regular drinkers enjoying St Peter’s beers.”
The Wortwell Bell will continue to be overseen by Stuart and Cathryn with a new team direct from Delia Smith’s Canary Catering taking over day to day operations.
