We're Still Looking For A Packaging Manager!

We are continuing our search for a Packaging Manager to join our team during an exciting time of expansion. It is not often that such a position at our brewery arises and we are still looking for that someone special. Could it be you?

You would need to be a highly organised person with an excellent eye for detail and a can-do attitude to report to our Chief Operating Officer on a full-time basis. If you are passionate about working in the beer industry, plus you are results-driven, then you are what we need! Our minimum requirements are that you must have at least five years’ experience leading a team in a fast-moving packaging environment and a proven track record of problem-solving.

Duties will include leading our packaging team while helping manage the transition of our current packaging line to a state-of-the-art bottling, canning and kegging line. You will also be responsible for implementing and improving our quality processes to ensure that the quality of our beer is maintained at a high standard. Alongside this, you will monitor and deliver critical KPI’s such as GLY, LEF, losses, utilities usage and productivity in support of the overall strategic goals of our brewery. The safety and wellbeing of not only the packaging team, but other employees, contractors and visitors in the packaging area is also an important part of your role. And on a creative and more challenging level, you will be involved in taking the lead on technical and organisational aspects of packaging-related projects.

The working week will be Monday – Friday for approximately 45 hours / week. The starting date for the position is as soon as possible. Due to the location of the brewery in rural Suffolk, having your own transport is essential. A highly competitive salary is negotiable based on experience, and generous benefits are included.

A rare job opportunity has arisen for a Packaging Manager to join our friendly brewing team at St Peter’s Brewery located in Suffolk in the UK during an exciting time of expansion.

We are looking for a highly organised person with an excellent eye for detail and a can-do attitude to report to our Chief Operating Officer on a full-time basis. If you are passionate about working in the beer industry, plus you are results-driven, we need you!

Our minimum requirements are that you need to have at least five years’ experience leading a team in a fast-moving packaging environment and a proven track record of problem-solving.

The working week will be Monday – Friday for approximately 45 hours / week.

The starting date for the position is as soon as possible.

Due to the location of the brewery in rural Suffolk, having your own transport is essential.

Medals in the 2024 World Beer Awards

We're Celebrating Suffolk Day!

Friday, 21 June is a special day for us all St Peter's Brewery ~ See our Flash Sale in honour of this occasion.

We are incredibly proud of Suffolk, the county in the UK in which our picturesque brewery has been located since 1996. And St Peter's Hall located in our brewery grounds has been around far longer! It dates back to 1280 and even has its own moat said to have been built to ward off marauding vikings. So it's become somewhat of an icon in this region, and we openly invite you to pop in and have a peep at it. More broadly speaking, Suffolk is known as the breadbasket of Britain, and it is truly one of the country's hidden gems. Renowned for its stunning scenery and rich history not to mention its fertile farmlands and miles of breathtaking beaches, Suffolk is a special place in which to live and work. Aside from being the first place in the UK to witness the sunrise every day, it is also famous for amongst others, singer Ed Sheeran, and his love letter to the county - Castle on the Hill - known to us all as Framlingham Castle. Also home to the Festival of Light (this weekend by the way) and Latitude , it's not difficult to see why we talk about that rather unique "Suffolk State of Mind". Something that you can read about in the poems we share below.

Find out more about bees and the role of honey in brewing...

Here's a fascinating statistic provided by the United Nations: It takes bees over 50 000 flights to more than 1 million flowers in order to produce just 1kg of honey. And, did you know that honey has featured in drinks over the centuries very prominently. For example, historically it was used to produce Mead which was the favoured pour of Vikings and druids, and it is a practice alive and thriving to this day. Honey has also found its way into beer and has proven itself to be a stable, versatile and a highly fermentable substance that is delicious in speciality beers such as our Honey Porter.

When added during the brewing process, honey provides sweetness and plays a role in raising the alcohol level in beer. It can also be used to lighten beers and take the bitter edge off of hops so that a more subtle character can come through. And where our Honey Porter is concerned when you first open it, a delicious honey aroma is dominant pointing to another of the special qualities honey provides beer - aroma. What follows is a dark brown liquid that is bursting with honey, hints of chocolate and vanilla at an ABV of 4.5%.

A brew we could not offer you to enjoy, if it weren't for bees. So on World Bee Day please support global efforts to raise awareness about the importance of bees and all pollinators who play such an invaluable role in creating a world that promotes healthy biodiversity and the security of food. We like the look of medals particularly those that are silver and bronze...

When our very dear friend and beer sommelier, Robin Parker, visited Vanessa and Karen at the Local Flavours Trade Show last week, he picked out a real winner from all the beers we were showcasing. And let's face it, he should know! Our Without® Original 0.0% beer has been awarded a silver medal at the 2024 World Alcohol-Free Awards. And our Without® Gold is a winner too! It received a bronze medal. Congratulations to the whole team at St Peter's Brewery for yet another outstanding achievement. We are incredibly proud.

The World Alcohol-Free drinks competition is the largest of its kind. No less than 450 entries from 21 countries featuring non-alcoholic products ranging from beers, wines and spirits to kombuchas, cocktails and aperitifs were entered this year. Judging took place early in March in London.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers, social media followers, suppliers and distributors for the support given us the past 28 years which motivates us to continue brewing success!

Our sales team pull out all the stops ...

It's not everyday that you are invited to the headquarters of the UK's most prestigious supermarket chain to showcase your beers. Last week we had such an opportunity and our team did us incredibly proud. Josh (featured), Tamsyn, Pat and Danny visited Waitrose's HQ in London where they were able to share their knowledge and passion for our award-winning beers with more than 300 Waitrose colleagues. "We focused mainly on those beers that are already listed in Waitrose outlets around the country," said Danny our Sales Director. "But we couldn't miss out on the chance to also introduce our Without® 0.0% alcohol free range of beers. We are hoping that since the category of alcohol free beers is growing so quickly, we might successfully also get this really popular line of beers listed some day soon as well." We took much deserved time out to meet up in the Bishop's Bar where we got to share a few delicious Christmas pies, some hot mulled wine as well as a few of our Christmas Ales. The sale of our Beer of the Month this November will raise funds for Mens Health.

We are proud to support the Movember Foundation throughout this month in support of the organisation's efforts to improve mens' mental health, prevent suicides, and fund prostate and testicular cancer research. For every 12-pack of our Cream Stout that we sell, we will donate £1 for each sale to the foundation. Our brewery team will then match that contribution pound for pound to save the lives of our fathers, brothers, sons, friends and partners. Together we can make a difference! .

A brand new event on Tuesday, 19 September 2023 at the Ipswich Town Football Club.

Emily and Vanessa will be attending this first ever tradeshow being organised by Thomas Ridley for all service professionals as well as more than 80 food and drinks suppliers from the region. They will be showcasing our award-winning Plum Porter and our Pale Ale. They will also be sampling many of our other ales, porters, stouts and non-alcoholic beers. They would be delighted to share more about these beers and our brewery with you. So come along and meet them! Entry is free, but pre-registration is needed via the Thomas Ridley EAT website. Entry is from 09:00. See you there!

We are incredibly proud to share with you that we have been awarded DOUBLE GOLD for our Golden Ale; GOLD for our Plum Porter; GOLD for our Whisky Beer and Silver for our Cream Stout.

The Asia Beer Challenge is held annually and judged by leading beer buyers in Asia. A market that by 2020 was growing by 7% p.a. so we are extremely excited to be recognised for our expert brewing in such an important market.

Gold in Global Beer Masters 2023

Congratulations to our brewers, bottling / packaging and office team! You did it again!!!

We are delighted to share that our popular Cream Stout won GOLD in the prestigious Global Beer Masters Awards 2023. Other medallists include our Pale Ale and Plum Porters which each won silver medals while our Without® Original received bronze.

The contest took place in London in the UK, and was open to beers of any style from anywhere in the world. In total 36 medals were awarded. We are exceptionally proud to be among the masterful few to be recognised.

If you've visited us recently then you will know that we have had a makeover! Our site has had a well needed refresh with our new signs which features our new, improved and modern branding! What do you all think?

Our new signage also includes a new and improved look for our wedding venue & restaurant, Trio's at St. Peter's Hall, as well as a transformation for our brewery shop.

Our restaurant is open Thursday - Sunday, serving a variety of culinary delights all cooked using local ingredients. Our brewery shop is open 7 days a week and stocks our full range of beers, merchandise and some fantastic local products.

Tuesday 8th March marked International Women's Day. A date which is celebrated around the world and looks to promote female equality and rights. International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

At St. Peter’s we are really lucky to have a group of dedicated, passionate and talented women working in our office, on our production line, in our shop and at our warehouse. With many of these women being long serving employees, we are very pleased to have a workforce which helps to #BreakTheBias.

We're pleased to announce that we picked up 4 awards in this year's European Beer Challenge!

We're celebrating at the brewery today after attaining four awards at this year's European Beer Challenge, with special thanks to our very own brewery heroes! Here are our dedicated brewers Warren & Stevie with our head brewer Steve Groves toasting our amazing news.

We are pleased to say our fantastic Old Style Porter, Cream Stout and Without® Gold picked up double gold awards whilst our delicious Plum Porter landed silver.

The European Beer Challenge is operated by the Largest Beverage Awards Organisation in the world including CWSA & Women’s Wine & Spirits Awards. The European Beer Challenge is Judged by Europe’s Leading Beer Buyers and offers brands and producers the opportunity to showcase their products to key influencers in the Beer market.

Traditional British craft brewer stays in private hands

One of the UK's first craft brewers, St Peter's, has been bought by a group of private individuals for an undisclosed sum.

St Peter’s was founded in Suffolk by John Murphy, who developed and ran the business for 23 years. He has now taken the difficult decision to retire and sell the business. He is delighted to have found a team that will continue his legacy and continue to make high quality, traditional beers.

Known for its expertly brewed beer, its Suffolk roots and quirky oval bottle, St Peter's has a loyal following in over 20 countries. The new owners are friends who have worked together and share a passion for beer. The new team will be led by Derek Jones, CEO.

Derek is a seasoned beer man with more than 20 years of global beer experience, including at MolsonCoors and SABMiller. “This is an incredibly exciting new chapter for St Peter's Brewery,” he says. “St Peter's has strong roots and a very distinctive identity. It is a powerful platform from which to grow the business into the future.”

“John Murphy had a clear vision for the brand, and we want to build on that. We will invest in the brewery in Suffolk from the outset to maintain quality while meeting growing demand. We believe the St Peter’s staff have contributed enormously to the company’s success and are key to its future. We look forward to working with this excellent team and making some really good British beer,” he adds.

St. Peter’s is one of Britain’s original craft breweries, located in the grounds of the ancient moated St. Peter’s Hall, deep in the Suffolk countryside. It creates truly distinctive ales and alcohol-free beers in the iconic oval bottle, and in casks and kegs. It also owns and runs the historic Jerusalem Tavern in Clerkenwell, London.

Dry January is just around the corner!

New Year's Day marks the first day of Dry January and we have 4 fantastic alcohol-free beers in our range which could make it easier to decrease your alcohol intake.

Merry Christmas from St. Peter's Brewery

Wishing all our customers a merry Christmas and a happy new year!

I think we can all agree that 2020 has been a year that we will never forget and it is safe to say that back in December 2019 we would have never imagined how different the world would be a year on.

We would like to say a huge thank you to all our customers for your continued support, especially through one of the most challenging years. Whilst this year has been different, we have had some memorable and successful moments. In February, the film 'Judy' starring Renee Zellweger won an Oscar and our London pub, The Jerusalem Tavern was lucky enough to be featured in this fantastic biography. In March, we launched our new beer 'Farmer's Flagon' to commemorate 100 years of The National Farmer's Union in Suffolk. In April, in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, we launched our Call & Collect service to allow local customers to collect beer during lockdown whilst our brewery shop was closed. In June, we gave our 5 litre mini kegs a well deserved makeover and our new design was unveiled. In August, our fantastic Cream Stout won Gold in the SIBA Independent beer awards. In October, we hit 7000 brews since the brewery opened in 1996! Our 7000th brew was our highly popular Plum Porter. Also in October, our Citrus Beer won Gold in the 'flavoured + fruit' category in the Global Beer Masters 2020 awards.

We hope that next year will be much brighter and we look forward to providing you with more premium, award-winning and delicious beers in 2021 and beyond.

Despite this year being very different and having to change the way we celebrate, we hope you all have a happy Christmas and we look forward to seeing you in 2021.

Our Citrus Beer gets gold!

We are pleased to announce that our Citrus Beer won GOLD in the Global Beer Masters 2020 Awards. Held by The Drinks Business, Global Beer Masters is an annual event judged blind by a panel of industry experts.

Citrus Beer is a superbly refreshing, straw coloured beer. English Pale malts combined with Challenger and Goldings hops provide a slight bitterness, followed by a distinct zesty and pithy grapefruit aroma that leads to a pleasing citrus flavour in the mouth.

We've hit 7000 brews!

As of this week, we have officially produced our 7000th brew...

As of this week, we have officially produced 7000 brews since the brewery opened in 1996. Our 7000th brew was our popular Plum Porter which is dark, sweet and full-bodied. Plum Porter is one of our best-selling brews and like our other beers, is enjoyed all over the world.

A lot has changed since the brewery opened in 1996, but one thing for sure is the quality of our premium, delicious and traditional beers has stayed the same. The unique balance of East Anglian malt, carefully selected hops and the time honoured skill of our master brewer create a range of truly distinct classic English ales available in our uniquely shaped oval bottle. Our iconic oval bottle is based on an eighteenth century gin bottle from Gibbstown, by the Delaware River near Philadelphia and has been used since the brewery opened.

We would like to thank all our customers for their support over the last 24 years and here is to the next 7000 brews!

SIBA Digital Beer Awards 2020... We're winners!

We're winners!

We have some exciting news to bring you this afternoon! We are pleased to announce that our already award-winning beers Plum Porter and Cream Stout have won two more awards in the 2020 SIBA Digital Beer Awards. Due to the pandemic, this year's ceremony was conducted over Zoom, "with each judging ‘table’ captained by a trained beer sommelier, following internationally recognised guidelines around beer style, colour, aroma and flavour"(Siba.co.uk).

Our Cream Stout won Gold in the Strong Beers 6.5% and Over category and our Plum Porter won Bronze in the Speciality Med-Dark Category.

“The Digital Beer Awards are a landmark competition in the UK and open to all independent breweries, many of whom have massively increased the amount of beer they put into bottle and can as a result of pubs being closed during Coronavirus lockdown. It is unclear when beer competitions and judging sessions will be able to take place, so we have worked tirelessly to deliver a modern and safe way to find the very best craft beers in the UK.” James Calder, SIBA Chief Executive.

Our Cream Stout won gold in the Strong Beers 6.5% and over category.

Our fantastic London tap room has re-opened!

Our London taproom, The Jerusalem Tavern, has re-opened and is adjusting to post lockdown life...

Our one and only London taproom, The Jerusalem Tavern, has re-opened and is adjusting to post lockdown life. To keep our staff and customers safe, the JT is currently take away only and is operating at reduced opening times. Don't worry though, despite these difficult times, it hasn't lost its charm and still offers the perfect little snapshot of Suffolk in central London.

The JT has some of St. Peter's favourites and finest on tap, ready for you to enjoy after a busy day at work or exploring the bustling streets of Central London. Our award winning pub also boasts our full range of beers, meaning this is the perfect place to find a beer you truly like whilst escaping the rat race. We also have some delicious food up for grabs and if you're driving or unable to drink alcohol, our famous Without® range is also available at the JT. Whilst we are longing for normality and to be able to welcome you back into our beautiful little pub, we have made the decision to remain takeaway only for the time being due to the cosiness and intimacy of our wonderful 18th century taproom. We want our customers to be able to enjoy the JT whilst knowing it is 100% safe to do so and we feel that the full experience would be hindered with current social distancing rules. Likewise, we have reduced our opening hours to Wednesday-Friday from 5pm-9:30pm to ensure that we are able to offer the best possible service whilst keeping our lovely customers and staff safe.

We are looking forward to welcoming our loyal customers back as well as meeting some new faces. We would like to thank you for your support and we are looking forward to the day that we can welcome you all back inside. Nevertheless, if you're looking for an after work drink or somewhere to visit during your staycation, our unique little pub will be open and ready to take your order.

Brewery shop now re-opened!

Our brewery shop has now re-opened after four months in Lockdown!

The shop is fully stocked with your favourite beers including lots of fantastic local products, St Peter's merchandise and a wide range of wonky labelled beer.

I t has been a long four months... We hope that all our customers are safe and well during what is a very worrying time.

On Wednesday 8th July, our brewery shop finally re-opened its doors after closing due to the pandemic back in March. However, it's not all doom and gloom! Whilst the shop has been closed, we have been working hard behind the scenes to make it better than ever for re-opening. It's been given a fresh lick of paint, a good tidy up and has been fully re-stocked to give you the best possible shopping experience.

Our brewery shop is stocked with our full range of beers, so it is the perfect place for any beer lover to delve in and try some of our truly amazing Suffolk ales. It is also the ideal place to find a gift for your loved one, with such a wide range of beers, we truly believe we have something for everyone.

Whilst the shop has been closed, we have also taken the necessary and relevant steps to ensure your visit with us is safe. We are currently limiting the shop to one customer at a time, we have implemented a sneeze screen at the pay desk as well as hand sanitiser for you to use whilst you are here. Although these steps are different to what you may be used to, be rest assured our friendly staff are on hand to help and answer any questions you may have. We have also adjusted our opening times, to make sure that we are able to keep safe. The shop will be open Monday - Thursday from 8:30am - 5pm, Friday 8:30am - 4pm and Saturdays 8:30am - 2:30pm.

For our customers who are not quite ready to come back to shop, we are operating a 'call and collect' service where you can give us a call on 01986 782322 (weekdays) and 01986 783108 (weekends) to place an order or for more information.

St Peter’s Brewery supports new CAMRA Brew2You App

CAMRA launches Brew 2 You app to support the brewing and pub trade during the Covid-19 crisis

In May 2020, the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) launched an app called Brew2You - which breweries and pubs can sign up to and provide delivery and collections services for beer and ale fans. Brew2You was created by CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) to support pubs and breweries during a time where trade is low and to help reduce wastage of beer with the aim to bring people and great beer from great local businesses together.

CAMRA is a not for profit organisation and as such the money you pay to platform partners is received 100%.

Customers can visit the website www.brew2you.co.uk to search for a brewery in their area offering local deliveries or collections. Users can also download their app from the App Store or Google Play store.

St Peter’s Brewery has produced a new ale to celebrate the centenary year of Suffolk National Farmers’ Union (NFU)

Suffolk National Farmers’ Union (NFU) members are toasting a new ale to mark their centenary year. Farmer’s Flagon has been launched to mark 100 years of the NFU in Suffolk.

It has been produced by St Peter’s Brewery as a way of reflecting the organisation’s dedication to the industry in the county over the last century.

St Peter’s managing director John Hadingham said it was “fantastic” to be a part of the celebrations. “The NFU got in touch with us as they wanted to do something special to mark their centenary and they loved what we do here at the brewery, and the fact that we are in such a rural location, surrounded by fields of barley,” he said. “They felt the brewery was the perfect fit for producing this special ale, especially as flagon malting barley is grown locally. At a time when we are all worrying about bigger things and relying on our British farmers to come up with the goods in the coming weeks, it is fantastic to be a part of something that celebrates the NFU’s role in the continued success of British farming.”

St Peter’s Brewery relaunches Without® 0.0% ABV alcohol free beer with new recipe

St Peter’s Brewery has refreshed the recipe for its Without® brand of alcohol-free beer for 2020 to appeal to a wider range of customers.

The brewery has made changes to the profiles of Without® Gold and Without® Original, which launched in 2016, as well as Without® Elderberry & Raspberry, which launched last year.

Although the taste will remain largely the same, the team has worked with new hop profiles to provide “ more hop forward aromas and subtly improved taste characteristics ”.

John Hadingham, managing director at St Peter’s Brewery, said: “When we first launched Without®, it was one of very few zero-alcohol craft beer products available in the mainstream and it has been incredibly popular, but we want the brand to continue to reach across all age groups and motivations.

“We’ve seen a growing trend towards full-bodied IPAs, for example, and the trade and consumers have been telling us they wanted a refreshing zero-alcohol beer that has hoppier flavours.

“We’ve been experimenting with our liquid and feel we’ve achieved something that will not only appeal to our current consumers, but also attract the new and discerning no and low alcohol purchasers.”

St Peter’s Brewery has launched two new gluten free beers

St Peter’s Brewery has launched two new gluten free versions of its Cream Stout and Suffolk Gold beers, appealing to a growing number of coeliacs and intolerance sufferers in the UK.

Brewed by our expert team at St Peter’s Brewery in Suffolk and with full Coeliac UK certification, these new beers aim to appeal to a wide range of beer drinkers looking for a high-quality gluten-free beer that doesn’t compromise on taste or flavour.

St Peter’s new Gluten Free Cream Stout and Gluten Free Suffolk Gold are brewed to the exact same standards as the original versions, but without the gluten. With clearly defined flavours and distinctive aromas, they promise those following gluten-free diets a delicious alternative.

Gluten Free Cream Stout is a dark and aromatic cream stout, using a blend of local malts and hops. With an ABV of 6.5%, expect rich coffee and vanilla notes for a satisfying bittersweet aftertaste.

Gluten Free Suffolk Gold is a full-bodied golden ale that is brewed with Suffolk malt with a citrus twist. With an easy-drinking ABV of 4.9%, First Gold hops give a pleasing aroma and bitterness to this sweet, but dry beer.

St Peter’s Brewery has joined forces with The English Whisky Company to create a unique Whisky Beer

Described as "delicious", the flavours in the 4.8% ABV beer are said to balance "golden beer with smokey overtones and aromas of peated malt", and are aimed at both beer and whisky drinkers.

"This is an exciting new launch and we're delighted to have worked so closely with The English Whisky Co to create a delicious beer that combines great beer and fantastic whisky," said brewery boss John Hadingham.

Katy Nelstop of The English Whisky Co , said the new beer would be "incredibly popular" with its customers and expected that a gift pack with the beer and the firm's single malt would be "a great seller" in its shop. "Whisky fans are real connoisseurs and they love to experiment with other whisky-based products. We know this new whisky beer will be incredibly popular with our customers," she said.

The drinks fusion – created by St Peter's Brewery in Bungay, Suffolk and the English Whisky Company at Roudham, Norfolk – is already attracting interest from overseas.
